Filicudi

Filicudi Island

Filicudi is a wild and beautiful island. It is the ancient “Phoenicusa” so called because of its abundant vegetation of ferns. Together with Alicudi it is geologically the oldest and wildest of the Aeolian Islands.
The Porto area is the center of the island where there are small island businesses. In the south-western part of the island there is the small village of “Pecorini”, with the small fishing port and a small pebble beach.
The Capo Graziano promontory is a destination not to be missed and is about half an hour’s walk from the port. Capo Graziano is in fact one of the most important places for the Aeolian archeology.
For those who love trekking, an itinerary not to be missed is the ascent to Monte Fossa delle Felci, 771 meters high reachable along an ancient mule track that leads to the Fossa delle Felci. From the peak it will be possible to admire the island of Alicudi and the imposing rock of “La Canna” 71 meters high.
For those who love diving, off Capo Graziano, there is an archaeological site of world importance for the numerous boats of ancient times present in the seabed.
Do not miss a visit to the “Grotta del Bue Marino” which is the largest inlet of the Aeolian Islands. The cave is 20 meters high, 30 meters wide and 20 meters deep. It can only be reached by small boats and by swimming. At the bottom of the cave there is a small pebble beach.
